Essential Oils for Health and Well-Being


A series of 10 workshops designed to help you to use essential oils for the health and well-being of yourself, your family and friends. You will learn about the properties of your selected oils, techniques of blending, and about contra-indications and cautions.
Materials and equipment required:
You will need to bring with you: at least TWO essential oils from each of the following categories, plus 3-5 others of your choice:
a) Exotics: Patchouli, Sandalwood, Vetivert, Ylang ylang.
b) Flowers: Chamomile (German or Roman), Geranium, Jasmine, Lavender, Rose, Neroli.
c) Citrus: Bergamot, Grapefruit, Lemon, Lemongrass, Lime, Orange (bitter or sweet).
d) Herbs: Basil, Clary Sage, Marjoram, Peppermint, Rosemary, Thyme (sweet).
e) Trees: Cedarwood, Eucalyptus, Juniper, Petitgrain, Pine, Teatree.
f) Spices: Black pepper, Ginger.
g) Resins: Benzoin, Frankincense, Myrrh.
You will also need a box to keep them in, and a measuring pot and mixer (bear in mind you will be blending 5-30ml amounts).

Course outline
1. Introduction. Definitions: aromatherapy, essential oil. The history and benefits of aromatherapy. Practical exercises: smell oils and write down findings.
2. Contra-indications and cautions. General properties of essential oils. Botanical families. Health and Safety: storage, disposal. Practical exercises.
3. Theories and techniques of blending. Using carriers: different types, advantages and disadvantages. Properties of carrier oils. Blending different carriers together. Practical exercises.
4. Exotic oils and resins: properties and characteristics. Essential oils for skincare. Practical exercises.
5. Floral essential oils: properties and characteristics. Essential oils for mental well-being. Practical exercises.
6. Citrus essential oils: properties and characteristics. Essential oils for the lymphatic system. Practical exercises.
7. Herbal essential oils: properties and characteristics. Essential oils for the home. Practical exercises.
8. Essential oils from trees: properties and characteristics. Essential oils for the respiratory system. Practical exercises.
9. Spice oils: properties and characteristics. Essential oils for the digestive system. Oils for pain relief. Practical exercises.
10. Workshop: making your own blends. Observation and assessment. Certificate of attendance.
